Zoek je een plek waar je met jouw technische vaardigheden als System Engineer maatschappelijke impact kan hebben? Ter versterking van het Humanities IT backoffice-team, zoeken we een veelzijdige System Engineer die meewerkt aan het beheer van onze Linux/Windows-infrastructuur.

Wat ga je doen?

Binnen de faculteit Geesteswetenschappen van de Universiteit Utrecht wordt steeds vaker gebruikgemaakt van gedigitaliseerde gegevens en geavanceerde tools voor het bewerken en analyseren van deze data. Ter ondersteuning van onderzoek en onderwijs op dit gebied beschikt de faculteit over een Centre for Digital Humanities (CDH), opgebouwd uit een viertal onderdelen met elk een eigen specialisatie. Zo worden in het Research Software Lab applicaties ontwikkeld voor geavanceerde toepassingen zoals machine learning, text-mining, natural language processing en datavisualisatie. In de labs van het Institute for Language Sciences worden experimentele voorzieningen geboden voor taalkundig onderzoek met proefpersonen, inclusief een fonetisch lab, eye-tracking lab en EEG/ERP-faciliteiten. De Data School onderzoekt de impact van big data en AI op burgerschap en democratie, en de transformatie van het openbaar bestuur. De ondersteunende infrastructuur voor al deze activiteiten wordt ontwikkeld, gebouwd en beheerd door de backoffice van Humanities IT, waar je zou komen te werken.

Als System Engineer werk je in een klein en hecht team mee aan het dagelijks beheer, de uitrol en het monitoren van onze infrastructuur, die bestaat uit enkele honderden gevirtualiseerde Linux-servers, enkele tientallen Windows-servers en een aantal Linux/Windows-workstations in de labs. Je zorgt voor updates en backups, ondersteunt de ontwikkelteams, labtechnici en onderzoekers, en handelt vragen en meldingen af die bij ons binnenkomen. Samen met onze senior engineers bouw je mee aan het verder automatiseren en schaalbaar maken van onze omgeving.

Als backoffice-team zien en spreken we elkaar regelmatig, digitaal en op locatie. We werken samen op basis van vertrouwen in elkaars professionaliteit en er is veel ruimte voor eigen initiatief. We hebben regelmatig contact met de ontwikkelteams, labtechnici en onderzoekers die gebruik maken van onze infrastructuur.

We staan open voor zowel junior als meer senior kandidaten en zijn bereid om de functie af te stemmen op basis van je ervaringsniveau en professionele interesses. Voor het Utrecht Centre for Digital Humanities zoeken we ook een Linux/DevOps-specialist. Bekijk de vacature via onze website.

Wat breng je mee?
  • Je hebt kennis van en ervaring met het beheer van Linux- en Windows-servers.
  • Je kunt omgaan met de LAMP software stack (Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP/Python).
  • Je stelt de veiligheid en betrouwbaarheid van de infrastructuur voorop en hebt interesse in het automatiseren van taken met scripts of CI/CD-pipelines.
  • Enige ervaring met geautomatiseerd configuratiebeheer (SCCM, Puppet), containers en virtualisatie (VMware) is een voordeel.
  • Het komt goed van pas als je kunt programmeren (Python, PHP).
Wat bieden wij?

Wij bieden:

  • een functie voor 12 maanden met uitzicht op een dienstverband voor onbepaalde tijd; 
  • een werkweek van 28 tot 40 uur met een bruto maandsalaris van minimaal € 3.226,- tot maximaal € 5.090,- bij een fulltime dienstverband (schaal 9-10 van de cao Nederlandse Universiteiten); 
  • 8% vakantiegeld en een eindejaarsuitkering van 8,3%; 
  • een pensioenregeling, gedeeltelijk doorbetaald ouderschapsverlof en flexibele arbeidsvoorwaarden op basis van de cao Nederlandse Universiteiten. 

Naast de arbeidsvoorwaarden die zijn vastgelegd in de cao Nederlandse Universiteiten kent de Universiteit Utrecht een aantal eigen regelingen. Zo zijn er afspraken over professionele ontwikkeling, verlofregelingen, regelingen op het gebied van sport en cultuur en krijg je korting op software en andere IT-producten.
