About you and this role

Join the Dow Terneuzen Light Hydrocarbons Optimize Facility Team as an Improvement Engineer 

The Hydrocarbons complex in Terneuzen, commonly named as LHC “Light Hydrocarbons,” is composed of three Steam Crackers and their corresponding Aromatics & Butadiene facilities. Overall, more than 300 employees are part of this team. The Optimise Facility Team is a sub-team in LHC, focused on driving continuous improvement in safety, reliability, and production capabilities of the operating plants.

Terneuzen is home to Dow’s second largest manufacturing site globally and the largest in Europe. LHC-1 and LHC-2 went into operation in 1970, and LHC-3 has been operating since 2000. The crackers convert naphtha (crude oil) and LPG into ethylene, propylene, benzene and butadiene. These four chemicals are important raw materials in all of Dow’s production processes to produce plastics and other derivative materials.

Terneuzen LHC's vision is to become Light Hydrocarbons safest, most reliable and most competitive asset in the fleet, with continuous improvement on feedstock flexibility and sustainability. As an Improvement Engineer you serve as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical and organizational skills to drive the plant level continuous improvement program targeted at delivering maximum value from the assets, while also focusing on process safety and production efficiency.

Responsibilities

You possess in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team. You drive knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology. You will partner with the experts to implement projects from the Plant Specific Technology Plan (PSTP) that delivers continuous improvement while meeting the plant level EH&S improvement goals. You will partner with plant operation and maintenance personnel to identify and track performance indicators to be used in identification of technology gaps and continuous improvement opportunities. You serve in the role of "manufacturing representative" in Global Project Methodology (GPM) to implement Capital and Expense improvement projects. You serve as the implementation arm of the technology center to ensure alignment with Most Effective Technology (MET) implementation, and Process Safety requirements. You will participate in the on-call program for plant immediate response and advising.

Qualifications

You have minimum a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering preferred. You are fluent in English, verbally and written.

Preferred Skills

Fluency in Dutch, verbally and written or willing to learn.
