We are seeking a skilled Climate Data Engineer to join our team at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI). As a Climate Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining climate data handling systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Contribute to climate adaptation by providing hands-on experience in designing, building, and maintaining climate data handling systems.
- Collaborate with the Climate Services team to develop new climate information products, such as high-resolution maps of urban climate.
- Maintain and update climatological data handling systems.
- Support the team in developing new climate information products, such as pan-European observational climate maps, climate monitoring products, and high-resolution maps for the Netherlands.
- Bachelor's degree in ICT.
- Profound knowledge of Python and proven experience.
- Experience working with large datasets, including data collection, processing, and dissemination.
- Amply experience with scripting languages like PHP, Shell, Bash in a Linux environment.
- Analytical thinking skills to comprehend complex data structures, recognize patterns, and extract insights that inform data-driven decision-making.
- Keen interest in climate and climate change.
- Competitive salary (schaal 10, schaal 11).
- Permanent contract preceded by an annual contract.
