About the department

The Clinical Chemistry Laboratory (approx. 116 staffing positions - 170 employees) of the Meander Medical Center carries out diagnostics for medical specialists, general practitioners, midwives, nursing homes, hospitals within and outside the region, and for its own anticoagulation service. The laboratory is part of the laboratory center, which also includes the anticoagulation service, the laboratory for medical microbiology and immunology, and the clinical pathology. In addition, a wide range of specialized tests are performed in the areas of fertility, special chemistry, bone marrow diagnostics, coagulation, blood transfusion, and molecular diagnostics. Within the laboratory, we prioritize providing high-quality service to our customers, and that's why we are proud of our ISO 15189 accreditation. Our laboratory is also highly automated. By mid-2024, a fully new track will even be installed.

Within the Clinical Chemistry department, five laboratory specialists in clinical chemistry and one clinical chemist in training work with a team manager, two chief analysts, and the team of laboratory analysts. Our primary goal is to provide professional patient care.

What you will do

The Central Diagnostic Laboratory (CDL) provides a broad Point of Care (POC) network both within and outside the Meander Medical Center. Various POC equipment is connected to the LIS/ZIS/HIS via a middleware system, and the CDL is responsible for the substantive execution of the POC analyses, selection, implementation, and maintenance of the equipment, and training of the users. For this vacancy, we are looking for a colleague who wants to manage and coordinate this process together with the colleague specialist.

In addition to coordinating the POCT, you, together with the colleague specialist and the chief analyst with a focus on pre-analysis, are responsible for the activities in the Core-Lab and the preparation of the analysis material in advance (Pre-analysis). The Core-lab involves highly automated analysis equipment from different firms, which are linked to a Track (Core-Lab). More than 90 different determinations for clinical chemistry, serology, immunology, and pharmacy are carried out on this Core-Lab unit of analyzers and Track.

General tasks

  • Leading role (alongside the specialist, chief analyst, and clinical chemist) in the procurement, implementation, training, and maintenance of POCT.
  • Training and coaching colleagues and users.
  • Central point of contact for issues and malfunctions with equipment, maintaining contacts with suppliers and users.
  • Enforcing the applicable quality standard (ISO15189).
  • Developing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) and PRAs (Prospective Risk Analysis).
  • Authorizing laboratory results.

Requirements

In the role of Specialist, you are accustomed to a dynamic environment. You maintain confidence and calmness, and bring a positive touch. Additionally, you have the following qualities:

  • Current knowledge of Point of Care equipment and related software.
  • Demonstrated affinity with ICT and middleware connections and data analysis.
  • HBO-level thinking and holding an HLO diploma in clinical chemistry or relevant HLO partial certificates or being willing to obtain them.
  • Proactive in identifying and resolving issues and areas for improvement.
  • Good communication skills for leading and discussing with colleagues, doctors, patients, chief analysts, and clinical chemists.
  • Proficient in setting goals and priorities.
  • Extensive writing skills to create clear and understandable procedures and protocols.
  • Understanding and interpreting scientific articles (also in English).
