- Wereldwijd bedreigen conflicten en criminaliteit / ondermijnende activiteiten onze veiligheid. Om deze dreigingen tegen te gaan werkt TNO aan innovatief onderzoek en de toepassing daarvan bij onze veiligheidspartners. Zo helpen wij onder andere het Ministerie van Defensie en de politie bij het nemen van de beste geïnformeerde beslissingen en het uitvoeren van (semi-)geautomatiseerde acties waarop zij kunnen vertrouwen. Dat doen we door toegepast onderzoek te doen en innovatieve ideeën te bedenken en uit te werken. Bijvoorbeeld voor de inzet van inlichtingen in het politietaak of voor Defensie, het ontwikkelen van modellen voor decision support bij het OM of het COA, en het inzetten van NLP voor de analyse van criminele berichten.
- Je komt in deze functie te werken bij de researchgroep Intelligence & Decision Support binnen de unit Defense, Safety & Security. Dit gedreven team van ruim 30 collega's bestaat uit diverse expertises en achtergronden.**Wat ga je doen?**:
- Als scientist werk je mee in onderzoeksprojecten rond beslisondersteuning met partners in het defensie
- en veiligheidsdomein, zoals Defensie, Politie en andere organisaties. In multidisciplinaire teams werk je aan verschillende onderzoeksvragen en ontwikkel je Proofs of Concept. Modelleren / programmeren is een essentieel onderdeel van je werkzaamheden, waarbij je oog hebt voor de impact van de tools die je ontwikkelt op de dagelijkse praktijk van onze partners. Je gaat de verbinding aan met onder andere ministeries en ketenpartners. In gesprek met hen weet je de behoeften boven tafel te krijgen en die te matchen met jouw expertise en die van je collega's. Zo draag je bij aan nieuwe projectvoorstellen.

- Jij wilt met jouw werk van betekenis zijn voor innovatie in het militaire
- en veiligheidsdomein en kunt goed omgaan met gevoelige informatie. Dagelijks samenwerken in meerdere projecten en projectteams gaat je goed af, mede door jouw proactieve en autonome houding en communicatieve skills in het Nederlands en Engels. - Je bent in staat om de vraag van een partner te vertalen naar onderzoek en innovatieve ideeën. Hiervoor leer je de organisatie van de partner kennen en schakel je makkelijk met belangrijke spelers. Meet je nieuwsgierigheid ga je graag op zoek naar de informatie die je nodig hebt voor je opdracht. Je bent analytisch sterk en kunt meedenken over het vertalen van wetenschap naar praktijk. Daarvoor kun je de perspectieven van verschillende eindgebruikers en experts combineren. Verder ben je leergierig; jij ontwikkelt jezelf graag en komt graag met nieuwe informatie en taken in aanraking.

- Een academische master of PhD in de richting van bijvoorbeeld Artificial intelligence, Toegepaste wiskunde of Data science.
- Minimaal 3 jaar relevante werkervaring.
- Uitstekende communicatieve vaardigheden in het Nederlands en Engels, zowel mondeling als schriftelijk.
- Ruime programmeerervaring in Python (en eventueel C# of Java).
- Ervaring met data-analyse en visualisatie, Machine-Learning (TensorFlow / PyTorch) en expert systems.
- Affiniteit met het Veiligheidsdomein en Defensie, ervaring in dit domein is een pré.
