1 MISSION OF THE DEPARTMENT
- Enable the WWF mission through driving a strong, inspiring, compelling, and strategic communications approach to ensure and support conservation impact in line with the strategic priorities of WWF International.
- To drive strategic communications to the Network, Governing bodies, International Secretariat, and leadership supporting WWF International's strategic priorities.
- To drive the strategic alignment of articulating consistent external positions on emerging issues across the network.
- To ensure a coherent ‘One WWF, One Voice’ by integrating and supporting the communications, media, and brand functions across WWF International and supporting these services to the network (offices in over 90 countries).
- To engage targeted audiences across the globe to accelerate conservation impact, influence decision-makers, and build the WWF brand.
- To facilitate and coordinate the development and alignment of a global communications strategy.
- To provide common technology platforms Network-wide to enable communication with key audiences.
- To provide a Centre of Excellence to the Network and convene the Communications Community in terms of communications practice.
2 MAJOR FUNCTIONS
- Provides vision and strategic direction to communications teams, and the WWF Network, to maximize conservation impact through robust strategic planning and coordination.
- Drives the development and monitoring of holistic strategy and ensures effective planning application; management of macro departmental communications objectives and tracking of performance to ensure organizational goals are consistently pursued.
- Accountable for dynamic forward planning; including the allocation and coordination of departmental resources according to key workstreams, portfolio priorities, schedules, and budgets, working closely with departmental leaders
- Ensures real-time resource capacity overview and project pipeline for the full department; works with communications teams to capture and respond to changing needs, consequential adjustments, and emerging opportunities.
- Responsible for project management and delivery of integrated workstreams with effective workflow traffic control and WWF International channel optimization.
- Leads business partnering within Global Communications to cultivate strong relationships with internal clients for effective collaboration and problem solving.
3 Major Duties and Responsibilities
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration, high performance, and accountability within the team while, in collaboration with P&C colleagues, seeking to support continuous professional development.
- In collaboration with the Senior Director, Stakeholder Relations and the Director, Organizational Communications, and with oversight from the Global Director Communications, establish organizational communications priorities to inform an agreed operating plan, and agree multi-disciplinary work steam teams to fulfil its desired outcomes.
- Accountable for the optimization and strategic use of resources to ensure delivery of communications demands from key stakeholders and the Network.
- Effectively manage Business Partners as a focal point of entry for stakeholders across WWF International and the Network in order to interpret and manage communications needs, through the development and maintenance of trusted relationships and thought partnership.
- Advise the Global Director, Communications on demand planning, resources, and surge events to ensure a proactive approach to organizational communication needs.
- Oversee the communications production hub to ensure effective external channel management, content creation, and analysis.
- Co-create and continuously refine work stream communications plans, working closely with the Senior Director, Stakeholder Relations and Director, Organizational Communications, with oversight from the Global Director, Communications.
- Coordinate across the Communications department and work streams to ensure that the changing communication environment is considered in all strategic planning efforts.
- Working with budget holders, ensure effective management of the departmental budget, ensuring resources are allocated effectively to achieve strategic goals.
- Monitor and report on key performance indicators across workstreams, ensuring completion of the overall strategic objectives.
- Other activities as requested by the Global Director Communications.
4 PROFILE
Required Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent work experience;
- 12 years’ experience in communications strategy and strategic planning, with a proven track record of leadership preferably in the private sector or a political environment;
- Experience of working in a complex international environment;
- Proven experience with managing complexity and multiple demands effectively;
- Core experience in the development, oversight and implementation of communication strategy and creative production, with business development mindset where communications directly contribute to business objectives;
- Demonstrated experience with analytics and analysing data;
- Exceptional organizer and project manager
- Results-oriented with a hands-on style;
- Strong diplomacy, influencing, and persuasion skills;
- Capacity for working in a pressured and fast-moving environment.
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proven experience in strategic communications planning and creative production;
- Strong leadership and an ability to think strategically; creatively and laterally;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent Interpersonal and diplomatic skills; good team player;
- Strong project management skills, results orientation;
- Perfect command of English is required. Knowledge of other languages is an advantage.
