Introduction

The Mechanical Safety Competence Lead plays a crucial role in the Mechanical Development cluster by driving the development and sustainment of mechanical safety knowledge necessary to ensure the safety and compliance of ASML products with relevant rules and regulations worldwide. To fulfill this role, the Competence Lead must be accurate, structured, a team player, facilitator, and capable of operating at and communicates effectively to a wide variety of audiences at all organization levels and sectors. A technical background rooted in mechanical design knowledge, supplemented with advanced machinery safety expertise, is essential. Additionally, experience in competence management, stakeholder management, and effective communication within different ASML business lines is expected.

Job Mission

As competence Lead, your mission will involve creating, sustaining, and executing all mechanical safety competence knowledge, deliverables (e.g., documentation, trainings), inputs, and necessary activities in to enable safe and compliance products. This includes ensuring the connection of knowledge keepers, key-users, and other stakeholders. The competence lead of Mechanical Safety enables engineers to create a safe design without mechanical hazards, in accordance with ISO 12100 & SEMI S2 in line with the System Performance Specifications (SPS) Product Safety. These activities should be translated into a mechanical safety roadmap, and this roadmap should be actively maintained through alignment with different stakeholders to enhance the competence maturity.

Job Description

Mechanical Safety Competence Lead is responsible or take part for the following activities in the organization:

  • Take the lead in running Mechanical Safety competence roadmap and related developments.
  • Plan, and implement the improvement activities that corresponds with Mechanical Safety roadmap.
  • Develop and sustain Mechanical Safety generic knowledge documents.
  • Develop relevant trainings contents and provide trainings to the design community to empower them in their daily design works.
  • Develop and sustain knowledge on robotics safety that is relevant for ASML products.
  • Represent the competence in different levels in the organization.
  • Support product safety and compliancy targets of the ASML and sustain mechanical safety compliancy framework.
  • Collaborate with other risk area leads like human factors engineering, working at heights in the team to develop common way of working.
  • Support in-depth safety assessments and design reviews and risk evaluations of mechanical systems and tools when needed.
  • Building and maintaining a network of local mechanical safety competence engineers that support the projects
  • Serve as the principle knowledge owner in mechanical safety, providing guidance and technical support to various teams.
  • Lead the development, and maintenance of mechanical safety protocols and standards for ASML.
  • Ensure that the company’s mechanical safety practices are in full compliance with all relevant safety regulations and standards as well as industry guidelines and best practices .
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new technologies, and regulatory changes related to mechanical safety, and disseminate this knowledge throughout the organization

Education

  • Bachelor degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Advanced certifications in mechanical safety (e.g., OSHA, CMSE, Robotics Safety) are highly desirable.

Experience

  • Deep knowledge on Machinery Safety, including robotics safety standards and regulations of EU, USA and Japan, Taiwan, S. Korea (China is a plus).
  • Proven experience in mechanical safety, with a strong focus on technical expertise and domain knowledge.
  • 8+ years of proven mechanical design experience for complex systems.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing safety standards and documents in a design environment.
  • Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO, EN, NEN, KOSHA) relevant to mechanical systems.
  • Ability to interpret the standards/regulations and make risk base judgements.
  • Multi-disciplinary knowledge and experience in means and methods is plus.

Context of the position

The sector Development & Engineering (D&E) of ASML is responsible for the specification, design and realization of the products in the ASML portfolio. Within the sector D&E the cluster Mechanical Development (MDEV) is responsible for the definition, realization, qualification and integration of mechanical functions and modules within these products.

The MDEV Human Safety Team works to embed mechanical human safety and compliance requirements into the ASML designs through active project involvement, and creation of competence-based knowledge (training/ awareness/ documentation etc.). Mechanical Safety Competence Lead reports to the Competence Owner, Human Safety Team Lead and the Global Product Safety Coordinator in the organization and is part of the MDEV Design Foundation Group.

This position requires access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. § 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
