Introduction to the job

Thermal energy is everywhere around us, and goes everywhere. On one hand we put hundreds of kilowatts into our machines to get things moving and illuminated, whereas on the other hand we manage and optimize milliwatts, millikelvins and ultimately picometers of thermal expansion. All to achieve extraordinary system performance in our lithography machines, that are used in semiconductor chip manufacturing.

Job Mission

Here practically all thermal engineering aspects are at play. Are you able to keep the overview in this dynamic and demanding environment? Are you motivated to steer a team towards thermal design solutions with impact on our next generation lithography machines? Will you be able to balance a robust thermal system design with all critical design parameters?

Role and Responsibilities

As a thermal architect, you will be responsible of the thermal functionality of a system/module, you will lead the design and qualify it with a team of engineers. This is done hand-in-hand with a complex and dynamic project environment that houses several multi-disciplinary teams and interfaces on a daily basis with each other to deliver the system. The module is carried through various phases of the product development cycle from defining the set of thermal requirements, developing the architecture, designing and testing the module, and finally industrializing it. As the thermal architect, you align and negotiate requirements with interfacing architects and other stakeholders to efficiently manage multiple design constraints including cost and time.

The role also demands managing various work break downs, driving design decisions and guiding young engineers in high quality analyses and test qualifications. While delivering a thermally robust system, collaboration with customers and suppliers are also part of this role.

Education and experience

· Masters or PhD in Mechanical/Chemical Engineering, (Applied) Physics, or related field

Nice if you have:

- A specialization in Thermal engineering

- Solid understanding of System Control

· A minimum of 8-10 years of solid thermal engineering/design experience

· Experience with FEM simulation packages like Ansys or Comsol

· Proficient in Matlab programming

· Nice if you have:

o Experience in the semiconductor industry

o Experience in Thermal Engineering

Personal Skills:

· Keeping the overview, abstract thinking in conceptual models, have vision

· Forecasting performance on long term, managing risks and decision making with uncertainties

· Creativity, inventiveness

· Strong interpersonal and communication skills

· Good Stakeholders management skills and ability to manage resistance

· Being self-propelled

· Good team player

· Strong desire to develop in thermal engineering and lithography
