The Materials and Structural Analysis Division (MSD) enables customers to find meaningful answers to questions that accelerate breakthrough discoveries and ultimately change the world. We design, manufacture, and support a broad range of high-performance microscopy and spectroscopy workflows on wafers and single chips that provide images and answers in the micro-, nano-, and picometer scales. We combine hardware and software expertise in electron and ion microscopy with deep application knowledge in the materials science, life sciences, electronics, and natural resources markets. How will you make an impact?

As a Manager Manufacturing Engineering System Integration within Operations you will lead a group of supervisors, engineers and technical specialists. Strong leadership through people managers is key and you will coach them to ensure personal and professional development. You are the sparring partner of the Sr. Manager Manufacturing Engineering and in alignment can represent the Manufacturing Engineering department (in absence of Sr. Manager Manufacturing Engineering). For this strong management skills are needed (i.e. organization skills, ability to delegate, situational leadership, emotional intelligence and decision making).You will have a close relationship with the Operations Manufacturing Manager(s) System Test to fulfill the technical needs within Operations Production. You will be accountable for proper staffing of engineers to provide adequate levels of technical expertise and have backups available for crucial positions. You and your cluster(s) will show a "yes we can do / yes we will help" attitude to make the impossible possible. Your department acts as a link between development (R&D) and production (Operations) in order to efficiently organize the design transfer and life cycle management. Your department will work closely together with the PLM, Product Marketing, R&D, manufacturing, logistics, purchasing, quality, and Technical Service Support (TSS) groups within Thermo Fisher to ensure development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards.

What will you do

• Lead and manage the engineering group, which may include supervisors, engineers and technical specialists. Leading through people managers.
• Provides input to the local engineer strategy and operational plans. Drives the defined strategy.
• Provide clear direction, guidance, and support to team members, fostering a positive work environment.
• Set performance expectations and hold team members accountable for their deliverables.
• Inspire and motivate the team to achieve high levels of engagement, commitment, and results.
• Act as a role model, demonstrating professional conduct, integrity, and ethical behavior according our 4i values.
• Collaborate with other managers and executives to ensure effective communication and coordination across different departments.
• Defines the individual goals for all team members within your whole department.
• Accountable for proper staffing of engineers to provide adequate levels of technical expertise. Have backups available for crucial positions.
• Enable strategic focus by prioritizing work and resources across the team and organization.
• Improve team effectiveness, further mature assigned team, contribute to OE bowler (K)PI's.
• Have daily management (tier2) in place for your team and drive the K(PI)'s within the required performance.
• Guides team members professional development by goal setting, mentoring and coaching.
• Identification and development of successors on all relevant positions.
• Competence management: define/reassess the competence matrix. Define the competence gap for all team members. Define the actions to solve the gaps and implement accordingly.
• Remove barriers to success and enable a work environment where colleagues can be their best self and are motivated to excel
• Justifies and coordinates approval for capital equipment expenditures needed to set up equipment in the factory and in the supply chain
• Responsible for continuous improvement process and optimization of engineering related processes and linkage to other departments
• May lead complex programs

How to get there (Education and experience):

• University degree in a technical area, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.
• Typically requires 10+ years of experience in high-tech industry environment in service, development or manufacturing
• Typically requires 5 years management experience (people and/or projects) in a manufacturing, technical support or service management role in a high tech industry environment
• Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (local language is preferred) including communication with multiple levels of management including executive management.
• Demonstrated ability to develop people via mentoring and coaching
• Demonstrated experience with leading and developing technical teams
• Working knowledge of cross-site and cross-functional projects management, data analysis and resource planning
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse customers in English and preferably also Dutch language.
• Be a collaborative team-player with hands-on and can-do mentality
