Our SRE Global team is responsible for rolling out global SRE practices to enhance the reliability of ING's critical services worldwide. The 'Operational practices' team focuses on defining and implementing operational SRE practices such as observability, major incident management, capacity planning, forecasting, reliability reporting, and error budgeting.
Role & Responsibilities
- You will develop, innovate, mature, and implement operational SRE practices and related IT processes across ING, collaborating with entity-level SRE teams to boost the reliability of our critical IT and business services. Your main goal is to establish global standards for reliability practices, ensure proper documentation, create training materials, and disseminate knowledge to our engineers at ING.
- You will serve as a reliability expert in key operational activities, particularly focusing on services or incidents impacting multiple Tech entities. This involves conducting reviews of critical business services or chains to pinpoint weaknesses, providing expert support during global major incidents, ensuring high-quality root-cause analysis, and addressing structural issues within Tech domains.
- Your primary task will involve leading the development of ING's global observability strategy and overseeing its implementation across platforms, services, and entities worldwide. You will closely collaborate with Enterprise Architects, entity SREs, engineers, and the I&E monitoring team.
- Special attention will be given to enhancing the observability of critical business services, critical chains, and global services with significant availability challenges. Subsequently, focus will shift to other practices such as maturing major incident management processes, capacity planning, forecasting practices, reliability reporting, and introducing Error budgeting.
How to succeed
- 10-15+ Years of experience in software engineering, IT operations, or software architect roles.
- Thorough knowledge of technology across all levels of the tech stack, with specialized expertise in areas like infrastructure, back-end development, observability, and CI/CD tooling.
- Tools: Proficiency in ING Private Cloud or Public Cloud (Azure or Google Cloud), related VM/container stacks and tooling, application-level technologies heavily utilized at ING, and specific tools such as Prometheus, ELK stack, Tracing, among others.
