Teacher - Art (temporary) (Senior School)

We are looking for a dynamic Teacher of Art, to teach students at Key Stage 3, and possibly Key Stage 4, in a temporary, part-time role starting in September 2024. This is a part-time teaching position (0.6 FTE), and a temporary role to cover for our Art Teacher who will be absent throughout the early part of the new school year. Currently the contract runs from September to December 2024; however, there is the possibility of an extension for a longer period if required (by mutual agreement).

Applicants should already have the legal right to work in The Netherlands through NL/EU citizenship, valid residency permit, or work visa. Regrettably, we cannot provide non-EU citizens with visa sponsorship for part-time or temporary roles.

The British School of Amsterdam is an independent, co-educational, non-profit day school providing world-class learning for children from 3 to 18 years. The School currently has over 1,100 pupils, in three school sections: Early Years School (ages 3-6 years), Junior School (6-11 years), and Senior School years). Roles and Responsibilities

Responsible for delivering delivering high-quality lessons and supporting students to achieve their best, this is an active teaching role with additional responsibilities as a Form Tutor in our strong pastoral team. Specific duties include:

· To plan and prepare curriculum for assigned timetabled classes and groups, taking into consideration the differing educational needs of the pupils

· To develop appropriate and differentiated schemes of work to ensure that the aims and objectives for the teaching of Art are delivered

· To monitor and track pupils' achievements at regular intervals subject to the instructions of the Head of Department or of other senior colleagues

· To secure and sustain effective teaching of the subject, evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupils' achievements, and set targets for improvement

· To ensure the discipline and safety of all pupils in the assigned groups and classes

· To deliver high quality teaching and learning as well as curriculum development across the Key Stages

· To keep up-to-date about subject development and to take part in in-service training for this purpose, disseminating to other colleagues where appropriate

· Participate in arrangements for preparing pupils for internal and external examinations

· Make provision for pupils of differing ability in all subjects

· Create a stimulating class environment which promotes effective teaching and learning and that encourages pupils to feel empowered and take ownership of their learning

· To work collaboratively with the Art technician to ensure they can effectively perform their role supporting teaching and learning and carrying out their other duties within the Art Department

· Provide opportunities for the use of digital technology within the curriculum

· Create a culture of achievement where students wish to do their best and are rewarded for doing so

· To perform the roles and responsibilities of a form tutor and work closely with pastoral team to provide pastoral care and support the wellbeing of all pupils under their care

· To teach PSHE as part of the pastoral support programme

· To demonstrate and inspire an enthusiastic and committed approach to extra-curricular and enrichment activities

· To participate in departmental, and other, meetings which relate to the curriculum and organisation of the school

· To take part in the review, development and management of activities relating to the curriculum and organisation of the school, including supporting development and improvement plans

· To consult and liaise with parents and attend meetings arranged for that purpose

· To participate in professional development and training as required

· To be involved in the development and delivery of extra-curricular activities and enrichment opportunities across the Key Stages

· To work collaboratively with other members of the school, both within the curriculum and beyond. This includes off site facilities and school residential trips

· To identify appropriate resources for the subject and ensure that they are used efficiently, effectively and safely

· To develop and implement subject policies, plans, targets and practices within the con

· Participate in the break duty rota, as assigned

· Undertake cover duties for colleagues, as assigned

· To carry out such other duties as are necessary as directed by the Head of Senior School and Principal

Person Specification

Essential experience, skills and abilities

· A recognised teaching qualification, for example, a PGCE or a BEd.

· Minimum three years' experience teaching the British curriculum (including GCSEs, A levels) in a UK School, or an international school.

· Experience of teaching Art across Key Stage 3

· Excellent IT skills

· The ability to work with a range of pupils at all levels

· Experience of teaching pupils with English as an additional language

· Excellent communication skills

· Good humoured, with good interpersonal skills

· Enthusiasm that inspires others

· Positivity and perseverance

· A desire to work in an international education environment

Desirable experience, skills and abilities

· Experience teaching AQA Art and Design at GCSE and/or A Level

· Experience of teaching another subject
