The Amsterdam Centre for Ancient Studies and Archaeology (ACASA) is currently seeking a Full Professor of Greek and Latin Literature in Context.

Responsibilities:

Scope of the Role:

We are seeking a seasoned professional with a robust background in Classics and a focus on modern literary approaches. The ideal candidate will join the Capacity Group Greek and Latin Literature and Culture (GLTC) and is expected to lead this group in the future. Research within this group concentrates on classical literature from Homer to Late Antiquity and beyond. Emphasis is placed on contemporary methodologies such as cognitive, narratological, digital, psychological, and sociological approaches to literature.

The successful candidate will need:

  • Experience in interdisciplinary or comparative storytelling
  • Knowledge of cognitive approaches to literature
  • Expertise in discourse, communication, and rhetoric
  • Understanding of intermediality/transmediality
  • Insight into the interaction between individuals and their surroundings

Candidates are encouraged to explore the relevance of Classics within global dynamics, cultural impacts, and hybrid cultural systems.

Educational Role:

The selected candidate will teach in dynamic settings and be involved in innovative teaching methods. They will play a significant role in various academic programs, supervise PhD students and postdocs, and engage in collaborative projects.

Research Requirements:

The appointee will conduct research within the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies (ASH). They are expected to contribute to ongoing projects and establish connections with other research groups. Funding acquisition, supervision of projects, and active participation in interdisciplinary collaborations are crucial aspects of this role.

Leadership Duties:

The successful candidate will lead the Capacity Group GLTC and take on coordinating roles within the department and beyond. Emphasis is given to maintaining an inclusive and safe environment for all.
