Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

Our client is a leading start-up in Wind Energy, developing innovative and cost-effective alternatives to existing wind turbines. The company’s patented technology is a game-changer in the wind energy sector: it uses up to 90% less material with the potential of being twice as efficient as conventional wind turbines with the same power output. Unlike conventional wind turbines, these systems do not require resource-intensive towers or heavy foundations and are thus highly mobile and easy to deploy. The system harnesses stronger and more persistent winds at higher altitudes, allowing for capacity factors greater than 0.5 and cost-effective electricity generation in return. The leading product is specially designed to support remote communities worldwide in mitigating energy challenges.

Company Origin

It was founded in January 2016 as a result of work initiated by a pioneering power research group at a renowned technical university. Research in power generation began in 1993, followed by a patent application for a related technology in 1997. By 2007, the first 20kW system demonstrated proof of concept. Currently, the company is developing one of the first containerized on-shore to enter the market.

Position Summary

The company is seeking an experienced, visionary, and dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to lead through its next phase of growth and innovation. As the CEO, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the overall strategy, ensuring operational excellence, and fostering an organizational culture aligned with the mission of advancing the future of renewable energy. You will collaborate closely with the Board, senior leadership team, and key stakeholders to drive expansion, secure funding, and propel the company to new heights of success.

Responsibilities and duties

Corporate Governance, including investors, the founder and other shareholders (board) relationship

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the board and the team, ensuring effective communication and alignment on strategic goals.
  • Provide regular updates to the board on organizational performance, key milestones, and market developments.
  • Oversee compliance with corporate governance standards and ensure adherence to ethical and legal responsibilities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with investors and stakeholders, addressing their concerns and fostering trust and transparency.
  • Collaborate with the board to set strategic objectives, review policies, and evaluate organizational progress.

Operations, Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring the organization runs efficiently and aligns with strategic goals.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational success and implement improvements where necessary.
  • Develop and enforce administrative policies and procedures to maintain organizational consistency and effectiveness.
  • Manage the allocation of resources, including staffing, technology, and facilities, to optimize productivity together with the budget committee.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and internal controls across all operational functions.

Organizational Development

  • Shape and foster a high-performing organizational culture that aligns with the company’s mission, vision, and values. Develop and implement strategies for talent acquisition, retention, and development at all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee performance management systems, ensuring that employees are motivated and aligned with strategic objectives.

Leading Fundraising

  • Develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies to secure financial resources needed for growth and sustainability.
  • Identify and engage with potential investors, donors, and funding sources, building strong and lasting relationships.
  • Lead negotiations with investors and founders, ensuring favorable terms that align with the organization’s strategic goals.
  • Work with the finance team and the founder to prepare compelling investment materials, including business plans, pitch decks, and financial projections.
  • Represent the organization at fundraising events, conferences, and meetings to raise awareness and secure commitments.

Qualifications

Experience:

  • Proven track record as a CEO or senior executive with a history of successfully taking new products to market and scaling innovative hardware companies, preferably in renewable energy, clean tech, or advanced engineering industries.
  • Extensive experience in leading complex, multi-disciplinary teams in technology-driven organizations.
  • Experience in securing and managing funding, including venture capital, public grants, and partnerships.
  • Strong experience in strategic planning, operational leadership, and financial management.
  • Nice to have: Deep knowledge in the wind energy or construction industry sector, including trends, regulations, and technological advancements (preferably in wind or alternative energy systems).

  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong in building teams, care at a personal level and a collaborative mindset.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Visionary thinking with the ability to translate long-term goals into actionable plans.
  • Knowledge of global renewable energy policies and trends, with an ability to navigate regulatory environments.

Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Environmental Science, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation

  • Base Salary: A competitive base salary between 120k and 150k, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
  • Equity/Stock Options: Equity ownership in the company, allowing the CEO to directly benefit from the company’s long-term growth and success.
  • Relocation Package: For candidates relocating, a competitive relocation package will be provided to facilitate the transition.
