School Nurse

We are seeking to appoint a part-time School Nurse (Schoolverpleegkundige) to work in cooperation with our fulltime School Nurse. Responsible for all aspects of student healthcare and well-being in our school, this role also involves planning and managing healthcare procedures and reporting requirements. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced NL registered Nurse (B.I.G.) who is fluent in Dutch & English, and has some experience of working with children & young people. Experience working in an educational setting as a school nurse (or similar) would be useful.

This is a part-time role, working two days per week.

Start date is 1 September 2024 (or earlier, by agreement).

**Role and Responsibilities**

The School Nurse (Schoolverpleegkundige) will be a champion for student healthcare management in our school. Specific responsibilities include:

- Create individual first aid treatment & advice to pupils, where required
- Manage a system for identifying pupils with special healthcare needs
- Attend to on-site incidents or accidents requiring first aid treatment
- Provide nursing care to any child that is unwell and will be collected by caregivers
- Maintain accident/incidents administration and reports
- Manage storage of medicines
- Maintain accurate records for pupils with chronic illness and special health needs
- Ensure pupils' medical data is correctly updated in school system
- Coordinate and implement school health services, policies, and procedures
- Train & support staff in provision of health services, including administration of medication to pupils (e.g. EpiPens)
- Initiate referrals and follow up for pupils with identified or suspected health problems
- Consult with BSA staff (counsellors, safeguarding leads, learning support)
- Participate in development & management of the school's emergency health & crisis management planning
- Implement disease control management procedures in the school
- Communicate relevant health mandates, recommendations, and trends using written materials, meetings, etc.
- Provide guidance and support to families in finding and using treatment services
- Collaborate with NL community agencies to provide resources for pupils and their families e.g. GGD
- Adhere to NL legal and regulatory requirements and ethical standards of nursing practice

**Person Specification**
- BIG nursing registration (Netherlands) is essential
- Recognised NL Nursing qualification & nursing experience
- Fluent in Dutch & English
- Good communication skills

**Desirable experience**
- Experience working with children and young people
- Experience in an educational setting (e.g. school nurse or similar)
- Experience in well-being and mental health, specifically for children & young people - advantageous
