Tess van Zalinge is looking for a freelance designer to work 24-32 hours per week on a project-based contract. The role is based in Amsterdam. This is a six-month position and the start date will be determined in consultation.

Tess van Zalinge is a leading fashion house known for its innovative and sustainable designs. Tess’ collections merge craftsmanship and modern design, with a strong focus on couture. Each piece is a blend of tradition and innovation, with responsible fashion and social consciousness at the heart of every creation.

Tess van Zalinge is seeking an experienced and talented Freelance Designer to take on a pivotal role in the atelier. Working closely with Tess herself, you will play a key part in the design and execution of the new collection. In addition to the creative aspects of the position, the designer is expected to take responsibility for the technical execution of designs, including pattern development and the oversight of a small team of interns and freelance seamstresses. Upon successful completion of this project and excellent results, there is potential to grow into a leadership role within the atelier, taking on more responsibility for the development of both

**Responsibilities;**
- Develop creative concepts and translate them into designs that align with the aesthetic and vision of Tess van Zalinge
- Manage the full design process, from sketch to final product, with a strong focus on pattern development and technical precision
- Ensure the highest standard of advanced sewing techniques, inspiring and guiding the team to uphold the atelier’s quality standards
- Collaborate closely with pattern makers and production teams to ensure designs are delivered on time and meet quality expectations
- Research and implement sustainable materials and production methods to enhance our sustainable vision
- Lead and mentor interns and freelance seamstresses within the creative and production process
- Play an active role in strategic decision-making regarding the creative direction and planning of the collection

**Competences;**
- A degree in fashion design (Bachelor’s or Master’s) and at least 1 to 2 years of relevant industry experience, preferably within an atelier setting
- Extensive knowledge of pattern development and outstanding technical sewing skills, matching the high standards of Tess van Zalinge
- Strong leadership qualities with the ability to manage and motivate a small team of interns and freelance seamstresses
- A structured, proactive work ethic with attention to detail and the ability to deliver high-quality results within deadlines
- Flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic environment
- A dedication to sustainability and innovation in fashion design, with the desire to contribute to responsible fashion
- Previous experience managing a team is a plus, but not required; a willingness to grow into this responsibility is key
- Ability to work closely and collaboratively with Tess, ensuring seamless cooperation and alignment on projects
- Fluency in both Dutch and English is preferred, as the role requires effective communication in both languages
- Creative problem-solving skills under time pressure, with the ability to remain calm and deliver innovative solutions in high-stress situations
