Avantium is a pioneer in the emerging industry of renewable and sustainable chemistry. The company is best known for its PEF - a fully plant-based, sustainable plastic material - that can be used in packaging, têxtiles, film, and everyday items that match today’s world. It is an exciting time to join Avantium, as we are on the brink of scaling up to a first-of-a-kind commercial plant to produce PEF, unlocking the high potential of this novel, highly innovative plastic material PEF.
**What will you do?**
The Project Leader Fiber Application Development will be part of the Polymer & Application Development (P&AD) team within the Technology & Innovation department. The P&AD team is an internal team with professionals in chemistry, chemical engineering and polymer engineer.
You will be initiating, coordinating and leading developments expanding knowledge on the behavior of our polymers during the fiber spinning, texturizing and further downstream processing steps. All with the purpose to have solid insights in the interrelation of the material, the design and the processing on the performance of the final article. You will also be in charge of launching, coordinating and implementing internal research projects, as well as setting up external trials with development partners. In addition, you will have a strong interaction with the Technical Account Management team to support them in customer trials.
**Responsibilities**:
- Explore improvement routes on the material, its processing and the design of the end product and decide which (combination) of the routes has the highest potential also from a business perspective.
- Support (material) performance assessment of customer trials.
- Keep the overview on the state of art on FDCA based fiber development and build on Avantium’s IP portfolio.
- Clear communication and coordination of laboratory activities with team members, to effectively generate high quality data and creating a safe work environment.
**What do you bring?**
As a PL Fiber Application Development you have the following:
- a scientific or R&D background on a polymeric material approach to improve processing and performance; linking the physical behavior of the polymer chain to the observations while performing fiber conversion processes. (“thinking from the chain”).
- an MSc., PhD or equivalent in polymer physics or engineering.
- experience and or background in fiber or têxtile engineering is a plus.
- creative mindset to come to new approaches to solve existing challenges.
- are a good collaborator in an international team environment.
- good (English) communication and interpersonal skills.
