Lecturers with a PhD may also may teach in the Master's degree program and supervise theses.- Are you our new lecturer in the BA Mediastudies, programma New Media & Digital Culture?- The Department of Media Studies is looking for fixed-term Lecturers to teach in the Media Studies BA programme, specifically in the team New Media & Digital Culture. Lecturers with a PhD also may also teach in the Master's degree program and supervise theses.-
- What are you going to do- teaching seminar groups, under the supervision of the course coordinator, in the bachelor programme Media and Information and, if you have obtained a PhD, in the Master programme
- coordinating and administration related to your own seminar group (such as handling administrative tasks and communicating with students);
- marking (final) assignments, papers and theses and providing input on exams and exam questions as well as registering marks;
- attending meetings and lectures, preparing for teaching, updating course materials or assignments and selecting teaching methods, in consultation with colleagues and the course coordinator;
- supervising bachelor theses (and, with a PhD, Master's theses)
- providing individual supervision to students such as mentoring and coaching.
- What do you have to offer- at a minimum, a research-oriented Master's degree in Media Studies or a related discipline, with preference given to a PhD in a relevant field;
- you are pedagogically oriented and enthusiastic about teaching (e.g., able to work from students' own knowledge base, to teach a curriculum that has already been developed, to supervise students and to make an active contribution in meetings with fellow lecturers);
- you have attained the University Teaching Qualification (UTQ). If you have not attained the UTQ, you are required to start with the UTQ track upon commencement of your employment contract and obtain the certificate within three years of employment;
- good command of the Dutch language is preferred. If you do not speak Dutch, we offer the opportunity to take and pass the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language programme II;
- teaching or teaching-support experience at university level, preferably with a focus on New Media;
- affinity with ICT in academic education and experience with digital and audio-visual equipment;
- team spirit and a willingness to participate in activities of the New Media team and to collaborate in teaching teams;
- administrative experience and skills;
- your command of English is sufficient to teach academic courses in English.

- Where you will be working- The New Media and Digital Culture team specialises in the study of digital media in the humanities and focuses on issues in digital humanities, digital aesthetics, data visualisation, internet studies, data cultures and the politics of code. There is a strong practical component where implicit knowledge and up-to-date experience in web culture are considered essential skills.
Lecturers teach mainly in courses concerned with topics such as data journalism, media theory, digital practices, digital methods and information analytics, media history as well as contemporary themes in digital culture, all in the programme Media and Information.
The team you will work in consists of 30 staff members. With over 500 first-year Bachelor students, the UvA has the largest programme in media studies.- a letter of motivation and detailed CV;
