The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) is seeking to establish a new full-time chair in Macroeconomics.
The University of Groningen, with its rich history dating back to 1614, is recognized for its commitment to research excellence, consistently ranking among the top 100 universities globally. The Faculty of Economics and Business is one of the largest faculties at the University, serving approximately 7,000 students and holding prestigious AACSB and EQUIS accreditations.
The Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance stands as the largest within FEB, comprising nearly 150 staff members and over 20 PhD candidates. This department thrives as an active international research community, achieving high standards in research output and publications.
Role and Responsibilities
The chair in Macroeconomics will be integrated into the Department of Economics, Econometrics and Finance, contributing to the research program of FEBRI. The successful candidate will be expected to lead high-quality research and educational initiatives in Macroeconomics, becoming a pivotal figure within the department.
The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Engaging in the Bachelor program in Economics and Business Economics, as well as the master program in Economics, which involves lecturing, course development, and supervising theses.
- Enhancing the Department's international reputation and network, particularly in macroeconomic fields.
- Supervising PhD candidates and mentoring junior faculty members.
- Securing external funding from national and international research bodies.
- Contributing to the Department's research agenda, focusing on macroeconomic studies.
- Facilitating research collaborations across various disciplines.
- Participating in macroeconomic discussions at both national and international levels.
- Collaborating with colleagues in related fields and potentially taking on leadership roles within the department.
Candidate Profile
We invite applications from individuals with a robust background in modern macroeconomic theory, as well as those engaged in empirical and policy-related macroeconomic issues. The ideal candidate will possess:
- A PhD degree.
- A comprehensive and distinguished understanding of macroeconomics, evidenced by publications in leading academic journals.
- International recognition as an expert in macroeconomics, demonstrated through editorial board memberships and a strong global academic network.

Employment Conditions
This position is a full-time role at the level of full professor. The compensation package is competitive, reflecting qualifications and experience, starting from €6,099 to a maximum of €10,721 gross monthly salary, exclusive of additional benefits such as holiday allowances and pension scheme participation.
