We are seeking a skilled and driven professional to enhance our capabilities in computational physics, focusing on the creation of cutting-edge electromagnetic solvers tailored for metrology applications. You will be integrated into a vibrant and innovative team that specializes in optical modeling and metrology inference.

Sector Insights

Within ASML, the Development & Engineering sector is dedicated to the innovation, specification, and design of new products. The Applications Business Line delivers comprehensive solutions that incorporate computational, metrology, and control technologies, aimed at optimizing the performance of lithography products for the semiconductor sector.

Group Objectives

The Modeling and Inference Group within D&E Applications is responsible for developing optical and mathematical models and methodologies essential for deriving physical model parameters from optical metrology data. This involves identifying, designing, and implementing new metrics and algorithms, as well as measurement functions that achieve optimal performance. The group ensures the availability and advancement of rapid and precise optical models and Maxwell solvers, integrating them effectively within the simulation framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deep understanding and enhancement of electromagnetic solvers, particularly utilizing (spectral) Integral Equation Methods;
  • Development of new features within these Maxwell solvers, focusing on alignment simulations and integration with optical sensor modeling, emphasizing speed and accuracy through algorithmic development and application-specific strategies, including machine learning techniques;
  • Accountable for the development, testing, and maintenance of algorithms, transforming general requirements into functional modules, especially for the Maxwell solver;
  • Clearly communicate essential mathematical principles, algorithmic solutions, and Maxwell solver models to internal stakeholders, including ASML Research and counterparts;
  • Contribute to the ASML Competencies and propose new or enhanced metrics and algorithms that fulfill both internal and external customer requirements;
  • Review technical analyses from the team and maintain an overview of team contributions;
  • Contribute to technical product roadmaps and generate intellectual property to safeguard ASML products.

Educational Background

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or Computer Science.

Professional Experience

  • Proven academic or industrial experience in developing specialized numerical algorithms within the Physics or Engineering fields, encompassing the entire spectrum of Computational Physics;
  • Experience in EM-simulation algorithm code development, such as integral equation methods or RCWA, is advantageous; alternatively, experience in related fields like acoustics or electronic structure;
  • Preferred experience in developing scalable codes utilizing iterative solvers and spectral methods;
  • Strong proficiency in numerical mathematics and familiarity with machine learning methodologies;
  • Experience with HPC, Linux environments, and solid knowledge of programming languages including C++11, Python, Fortran, and MATLAB, with MPI knowledge being a plus.
