Job Title: Optical Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Optical Engineer to join our team at the European Space Agency's European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Translate optical payload performance requirements into optical systems specifications.
  • Conceptualize and design optical systems, including telescopes and spectrometers.
  • Analyze and verify optical design, including tolerance analysis.
  • Evaluate and assess opto-mechanical layouts.
  • Develop plans for experimental validation and calibration of optical systems.
  • Analyze test results and verify high-precision optical components technology developments.

Requirements:

  • Master's or PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Project and/or industrial experience in the design, engineering, and testing of various types of optical instrumentation.
  • Proficiency in ZEMAX and/or CODE V, and preferably also ASAP.
  • Hands-on experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment, and tolerancing.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and communication skills, with the ability to work in a diverse and multinational team environment.
  • Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
