Compensation Package

The salary for this role is approximately $150,000 per year, commensurate with industry standards in Eindhoven, Netherlands.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Principal Design Engineer to join our Technology Competence Centre. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Becoming a key team member, providing technical expertise on PICs, and supporting the R&D program.
  • Performing behavioural modelling of building blocks and integrated circuits.
  • Supporting customers in simulating functionality and performance of their Photonics Circuits and assisting design teams with DfX considerations.
  • Understanding complex PIC design requirements to improve our Process Design Kit (PDK) in terms of performance, functionality, and completeness.
  • Exploring trade-offs between existing processes and customer feedback, proposing optimal solutions for power, design, linearity, and bandwidth.
  • Developing design testing plans and collaborating with cross-functional teams to characterize the functionality and performance of PIC reference designs.
  • Working with customers to design testing plans.
  • Acquiring market requirements and translating them into specifications for current and future building blocks.
  • Creating a feasible technology roadmap that strengthens the capabilities of the foundry and maintains its leadership position.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A PhD degree in Integrated Photonics or equivalent experience.
  • Proven track record of designing complex PICs.
  • More than 10 years of experience in Foundry/PIC design and customer-related industry experience.
  • Outstanding knowledge of PIC design for optical communications, LiDAR, and/or sensing.
  • Strong analytical abilities, diagnosing issues, and proposing practical, effective, and innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, self-confidence, and ability to connect with people, build trust, and respect.
  • Drive to deliver high-quality results and self-criticism.
  • Willingness to develop new skills, staying up-to-date with the latest developments and industry best practices.
  • Occasional travel to international conferences, project meetings, and customer sites.
