Head of IT Department

As a seasoned IT professional, you will be responsible for leading the IT department at The British School in The Netherlands (BSN). Your primary objective will be to execute your strategic vision for the future of IT in our school, ensuring that our technology programme and services meet the educational needs of our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead a team of IT staff members, including senior network and infrastructure administrators, application managers, data managers, EdTech specialists, and technicians.
- Be responsible for the business continuity of the IT infrastructure, including network and cloud security, and technical support for the whole school.
- Develop and maintain working processes that lead to more efficient and effective ways of working.
- Manage and facilitate the use of technology across the whole school to improve work processes, support professional development, and enhance student outcomes.
- Oversee the integrity of the school's IT infrastructure, including new systems and hardware rollouts.
- Continuously develop and migrate services and applications to the cloud.
- Strategically plan, develop, and manage IT projects, contributing to projects initiated by others.
- Develop effective relationships with staff across the schools, assessing and responding to their needs, providing support and advice in their use of the network and equipment.
- Manage contracts and SLAs with external suppliers and vendors.
- Present plans and strategies to the Board of Management on a regular basis, advising on future strategies.
- Develop and maintain relevant documentation and policies.
- Prepare and manage the yearly departmental budget.
- Oversee the development and implementation of preventative maintenance planning for the network and large-scale rollouts of new hardware.
- Own the process of IT calamity management and prevention.
- Contribute to the positioning of information platforms, including SharePoint, the website, app, and email.
Requirements:
- IT degree or similar from a recognized university, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of experience as a manager in a medium to large IT department.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a dynamic international environment.
- Experience in a virtualized Windows Server-based environment.
- Knowledge of Mobile Device Management Systems (MDM) and Cloud Technologies, especially Microsoft Azure and Office 365.
- Knowledge of GDPR and similar IT-related legislation.
- Proven understanding of IT networks, Cloud infrastructure, and implementation.
- Experience of managing 3rd-party service providers.
- Experience with IT staff training and mentoring.
- Advanced command of English (and preferably Dutch) language skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience in an international educational environment (school, college, or university).
- Database knowledge (such as SIMS, CANVAS).
- Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MSCE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CNNA), or similar IT qualification.
