Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Sensory Research Scientist to join our team as a Flavor Portfolio Manager at International Flavors & Fragrances (IFF) in Hilversum, NL.

About the Role

As a Sensory Research Scientist, you will be responsible for guiding and driving sensory and consumer research activities and projects in alignment with business opportunities and corporate strategies.

You will partner closely with creation and design teams to provide sensory and consumer insights that inform product design and formulation. Your role will also involve partnering with regional PX teams, portfolio, digital transformation, and commercial teams to ensure global relevance and leverage of insights.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage IFF proprietary sensory languages globally, ensuring continued relevance through maintenance and upgrade, global availability through organized sourcing and distribution, and global awareness and use through communication and training.
  • Be the owner of sensory descriptions of all raw materials and flavors in digital systems globally, ensuring data quality and relevance through best practices or proper sensory profiling.
  • Enable management of flavor portfolio globally by leveraging sensory description to identify opportunities for harmonization internally and externally, and drive coordination and consolidation of Best-in-Class initiatives to guide creation of consumer-preferred flavors.

Requirements:

  • Work management: project management and organizational skills to manage several workflows efficiently.
  • Interpersonal savvy: ability to interact seamlessly with stakeholders from different backgrounds and functions.
  • Strong drive for results and customer focus, both internally and externally.
  • Communication skills: clear, relevant, and effective communication demonstrating thorough understanding of audience.

Technical Skills:

  • Solid knowledge and experience with sensory descriptive and discrimination testing methods, as well as quantitative consumer testing methods.
  • Experience in moderation of human interactions with sensory panels, technical panels, and consumers.
  • Strong statistical skills, especially dimensionality reduction, inferential theories, clustering, and experience analyzing large datasets.

Education and Experience:

  • Degree in Sensory Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Food Science, or related area.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience in sensory research, preferably in food and beverage industry, ideally in flavor industry.

Estimated Salary: €60,000 - €80,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
