About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled student researcher to join our automation research team at Damen Shipyards. As a student researcher, you will work on novel technologies related to autonomous shipping, including full autonomy and captain support systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on autonomous shipping technologies, including vessel dynamics and control, sensing and sensor fusion, machine learning, collision avoidance, remote command and control, simulations, and human-machine interfacing.
  • Develop and implement tools and systems for RD&I, including setting up autonomy simulators in ROS and working with our full-mission bridge simulator.
  • Collaborate with our research team to identify and address research questions and challenges in autonomous shipping.
Requirements
  • BSc/MSc engineering student with a strong background in control, robotics, machine learning, mechatronics, (embedded) software, HMI design, or a related field.
  • Proficient in simulation skills, robotics control, and/or low-level language skills, including C, C++, and Python.
  • Experience with network interfacing and standardized protocols, including NMEA.
  • Good command of English, especially in writing.
