About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled student researcher to join our automation research team at Damen Shipyards. As a student researcher, you will work on novel technologies related to autonomous shipping, including full autonomy and captain support systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on autonomous shipping technologies, including vessel dynamics and control, sensing and sensor fusion, machine learning, collision avoidance, and remote command and control.
  • Develop and implement tools and software for RD&I, such as autonomy simulators and human-machine interfaces.
  • Collaborate with our research team to advance the development of autonomous shipping technologies.
Requirements
  • BSc/MSc engineering student with a strong background in control, robotics, machine learning, mechatronics, or (embedded) software.
  • Proficient in simulation skills, robotics control, and/or low-level language skills.
  • Experience with network interfacing and/or standardized protocols.
  • Good command of English, especially in writing.
