Position Overview
The field of Serial Crystallography (SX) is rapidly evolving, enabling the visualization of macromolecular interactions with light. This innovative approach employs a "pump–probe" technique, utilizing a brief UV-Visible laser pulse to excite chromophores within the molecule, followed by an X-ray pulse to investigate the resulting state at a specified delay post-excitation. The resulting light-induced X-ray crystallographic electron densities provide insights into reactions and excited-state dynamics. A postdoctoral research opportunity is available to explore light-responsive proteins critical for photosynthesis and photobiology, with SX findings complemented by time-resolved spectroscopy.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a comprehensive data processing pipeline for crystallographic datasets.
- Engage actively in the group's time-resolved serial crystallography experiments.
- Contribute to the organization and execution of serial crystallography experiments.
- Conduct SX experiments with a strong focus on data analysis.
- Examine the photo-regulatory and molecular responses of various proteins to light exposure.
- Integrate SX observations with time-resolved spectroscopy results.
Candidate Profile
- PhD in physics, physical chemistry, biophysics, biochemistry, or related fields.
- Experience and knowledge in structural biology and serial crystallography or large-scale data analysis.
- Familiarity with CrystFEL or DIALS data processing software is highly advantageous.
- Proficiency in Phenix and CCP4.
- Strong programming skills in Python or a similar language.
- Interest in collaborating within a multidisciplinary environment.
- Fluency in English is essential.
