PhD Researcher in Social Psychology

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. The successful candidate will be part of a Starter+Stimulus Grant Project focused on gendered emotion expression across cultures.
Project OverviewDespite progress towards gender equality, gender relations remain complex in Western societies. Emotions play a crucial role in relationships, and communication of emotions is essential for smooth interactions. However, the way we express emotions is gendered, potentially leading to miscommunications and disconnections between men and women. This project aims to examine how cultural contexts shape gendered emotions and their impact on relationships.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct research and complete a PhD thesis within the project period.
- Conceptualize and plan empirical studies on the project topic.
- Draft pre-registrations and submit ethics reviews.
- Learn and execute innovative quantitative techniques, including multi-level modeling, social media data scraping, and natural language processing models.
- Present research results at national and international workshops and conferences.
- Draft articles for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in the Social Psychology Programme Group, project group, and wider scientific community through collaborations, workshops, and presentations.
- Teach and/or supervise Bachelor and Master theses (5% of time).
- Master's degree in psychology or a closely related field by the start date.
- Strong background in social and/or cultural psychology.
- Excellent writing and presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively and learn complex statistical procedures.
- High motivation to research gender, culture, and emotions.
- A temporary full-time position of 38 hours a week for 4 years.
- A salary of €2,425.- gross per month in the first year, increasing to €3,115.- in the final year.
- An extensive package of secondary benefits, including an 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.

You will be part of a vibrant research group, the Amsterdam Culture and Intergroup Dynamics lab (ACID) and Amsterdam Interdisciplinary Center for Emotions (AICE).
