About Your Role

The Data Scientist will be joining the European Materials Group Finance team and will work on some of the most interesting and challenging business problems, with the goal to drive better business insights, improve efficiency and unlock value for our customers.

In this role, you will interact with business leaders across functions and engage the business in data-driven debates. You will utilize your skills and experience to systematically answer questions using data to provide actionable recommendations.

You will commonly utilize advanced statistical analysis and machine learning techniques. You will be responsible for modeling complex problems, discovering insights and identifying opportunities through the use of statistical, algorithmic, mining and visualization techniques.

A successful candidate will have demonstrated experience applying advanced analytics to a variety of business situations, such that they can efficiently and effectively develop solutions to a broad array of use cases.

Your Responsibilities
  • Interpreting and Analyzing Data: You will interpret and analyze data using exploratory mathematical and statistical techniques based on the scientific method.
  • Formulating and Leading Guided Analytic Studies: You will formulate and lead guided, multifaceted analytic studies against large volumes of data.
  • Coordinating Research and Analytic Activities: You will coordinate research and analytic activities utilizing various data points, unstructured and structured, and employ programming to clean, massage, and organize the data.
  • Analyzing Problems and Determining Root Causes: You will analyze problems and determine root causes.
  • Translating Complex Results into Simple Conclusions: You will translate complex results into simple, clear conclusions and visualizations.
  • Explaining Sophisticated Data Science Concepts: You will explain sophisticated data science concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Defining Company Data Assets and Data Models: You will define company data assets, data models, and jobs to populate data models.
  • Working with Cross-Functional Teams: You will work closely with all European business units and cross-functional teams to develop future models with the ability to link results to business processes.
  • Coordinating with Data Engineers: You will coordinate with Data Engineers to build data environments providing data identified by Knowledge Managers and Analysts.
  • Experimenting against Data Points: You will experiment against data points, providing information based on experiment results and providing previously undiscovered solutions to command data challenges.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's, Master's degree (preferred), or other advanced degree required in computer science, business analytics, applied mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or other data-centric discipline.
  • Experience: 4+ years of relevant industry work experience providing advanced analytics solutions, with a focus on forecasting-based models.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency with one or more programming languages: Java, NodeJS, Python, R.
  • Cloud and Big Data Technologies: Knowledgeable in some Cloud and Big Data technologies, such as Microsoft Azure, Azure Data Lake, Databricks, Google Cloud Platform, Apache Spark.
  • Analytics Skills: Analytics skills: descriptive statistical modeling & algorithms, machine learning algorithms, modeling dataset building, optimization, data visualization, pattern/cluster/segmentation analysis, predictive analytics, Analytics tools and Technologies like Qlikview, Cognos, Visual Basic, Apache, Oracle, SQL, GraphQL, NoSQL.
  • Leadership and Project Management: Exceptional record of academic achievement, professional accomplishment, project management, and leadership.
  • Modern Development Tools: Passion for building and comfort working with modern development tools and writing code collaboratively (bonus points if you have a software development or DevOps experience).
  • Business Sense: Basic knowledge of finance, manufacturing, and commercial business processes and ability to translate business needs into data and explain complex concepts in an understandable manner.
  • Project Lead Experience: Project lead experience of cross-functional teams is strongly preferred.
