Position Overview: Senior HVDC Consultant

In this role, you will engage in a variety of tasks based on ongoing projects. During the feasibility phase, your contributions will be vital in determining the optimal specifications for HVDC equipment, utilizing network analysis and performance evaluations. As you progress to the specification of HVDC substations, you will be responsible for defining the layout of the station, arranging the electro-mechanical setup, selecting primary equipment (such as transformers), and identifying potential filter banks (including shunt compensators and smoothing reactors), ancillary equipment, and control & protection systems.

During the construction and commissioning phases, you will oversee factory and site acceptance testing, ensuring the quality of delivered products. Your role will involve direct interaction with clients, ensuring that project deliverables meet both technical and economic objectives. Additionally, you will coordinate the activities of junior engineers throughout project execution.

Required Qualifications:

· Strong understanding of electrical power system fundamentals and familiarity with common software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSCAD, ATP, EMTP-RV, PSSE, DigSilent or equivalent).

Team Dynamics & Work Environment:

You will be part of a dedicated team focused on the core Power Equipment/Systems of HVDC Stations. After an initial integration period at our headquarters, you will have opportunities for international assignments, with durations ranging from a few days to several weeks.

Key Competencies:

· Proficient communication skills in Dutch and English (both written and verbal); knowledge of additional languages, particularly German or French, is advantageous.

· A blend of persistence, empathy, and strong interpersonal skills for effective customer engagement.

· Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

· A degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a specialization in Energy Engineering at BSc or MSc level.

· Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Expertise Areas:

· Resource optimization, both internal and external.

· Project management and scheduling.

· Flexibility to lead consultancy efforts across diverse geographical locations.

· Proficiency in managing complex and challenging projects.

Technical Proficiencies:

· Knowledge of primary HVDC components (transformers, breakers, disconnectors, filters, bushings, switchgears, smoothing reactors, and surge arresters).

· Familiarity with software tools for network modeling (e.g., PSSE, PSCAD, ATP, DigSilent or equivalent, ETAP).

· Understanding of applicable standards for Converter Stations.
