About the Role

The ALM (Asset & Liability Management) modelling division at ING is a dynamic group of skilled professionals dedicated to the advancement and consultation on global ALM models, which encompass interest rate risk, liquidity, and capital models. These models play a crucial role in pricing, funding, hedging, and capital requirement assessments. We maintain strong partnerships with stakeholders at the Head Office, including Financial Risk, Risk & Capital Integration, Treasury, and Model Validation, as well as local business stakeholders across various regions.

Team Overview

Our ALM Modelling team comprises 35 experts located in key cities. As part of the Model Development department within Integrated Risk, which consists of over 300 professionals, we are committed to empowering our business stakeholders and helping ING's customers achieve financial success. Understanding client behavior is essential, and we utilize advanced modelling techniques and technologies to analyze and leverage data effectively. Key Responsibilities

We seek a candidate eager to build a successful career in Modelling and Risk Management. You will be responsible for developing models that are intricately linked to our business operations, influencing global balance sheet metrics such as Net Interest Income, Economic Value, and Capital Requirements. The ALM models address a variety of global customer lending products, including mortgages and wholesale banking, as well as customer deposit products like current accounts and savings.

This position focuses on behavioral modelling for liabilities, including non-maturing deposits (NMDs) such as savings and current accounts, along with the development of regulatory models for Net Interest Income and Economic Value Evaluations, including Supervisory Outlier Tests and EBA Stress Testing exercises. Your primary objective will be to ensure that ALM models contribute to a stable Net Interest Income and accurate capital requirements. Given that these models are heavily influenced by client behavior, you will analyze and model this behavior while identifying emerging trends through big data analytics. Due to the integrated nature of ALM models at ING, effective planning, stakeholder management, persuasive communication, and technical expertise are essential. Additionally, familiarity with regulatory developments is critical, as ALM models are subject to regulatory oversight.

  • An academic degree (MSc or PhD) in a quantitative discipline such as Econometrics, Mathematics, Engineering, or Physics.
  • Completion of additional professional qualifications in financial risk, such as CFA or FRM, or a willingness to pursue them.
  • Relevant experience in the financial sector, including banking, insurance, or consulting, particularly within the IRRBB domain.
  • Experience in modelling NMDs and knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements for Banking Books.
  • Strong quantitative skills with practical application using programming languages such as Python.
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality outputs, including memos, presentations, technical documentation, analyses, and code, within established timelines.
  • Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • A capacity to challenge existing practices.
  • Strong teamwork capabilities.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
