We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced researcher to join our team as an Assistant Professor of Colonial Environmental History and Decolonial Futures. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and conducting research on colonial environmental history, with a focus on the intersections of colonization and environmental extraction.
Key Responsibilities- Design and conduct independent research on colonial environmental history and its implications for imagining decolonial futures.
- Develop and teach courses on environmental history, including decolonial perspectives, for both BA and MA students.
- Contribute to the research activities of the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies, particularly in its research group Environment and Society.
- Supervise Bachelor and Master theses and tutor students, as well as co-supervise PhD theses.
- Participate in committees and working groups, and carry out departmental administrative tasks as directed.
- PhD in history or a related discipline in the social sciences and humanities.
- Clear potential for developing a strong publication record and obtaining external research grants.
- International academic network in the research area and experience with research-led teaching in a higher education context.
- Organisational experience and a willingness to take an active part in the administrative and collegial life in the department.
- Good command of Dutch and English, with the ability to acquire an active and passive command of Dutch within the first two years of employment.
- Permanent employment upon a satisfactory evaluation following a temporary employment contract of a maximum of 18 months.
- A competitive salary, ranging from €4,334 to €6,449 gross per month, depending on relevant experience.
- The opportunity to collaborate in interdisciplinary teams and participate in the Dutch as a Second Language programme II.
