Assistant Professor of Colonial Environmental History and Decolonial Futures

We are seeking a highly qualified Assistant Professor of Colonial Environmental History and Decolonial Futures to join our team at the Universiteit van Amsterdam. The successful candidate will have a strong research focus on colonial environmental history and its legacies, with a particular emphasis on the intersections of colonization and environmental extraction.
The ideal candidate will have a PhD in history or a related field, with a strong publication record and a proven track record of securing external research funding. They will also have experience with research-led teaching and a commitment to personal development in teaching.
The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and conducting independent research on colonial environmental history and its implications for imagining decolonial futures. They will also be expected to contribute to the research activities of the Amsterdam School of Historical Studies, particularly in its research group Environment and Society.
The candidate will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and teaching courses in the Bachelor's and (Research) Master's programmes in History, as well as supervising Bachelor and Master theses and tutoring students. They will also be expected to contribute to the development and improvement of the broader teaching programmes in the department.
We offer a permanent employment contract upon a satisfactory evaluation following a temporary employment contract of a maximum of 18 months. The employment is for 38 hours per week, and the salary will be between €4,334 and €6,449 gross per month, depending on relevant experience.
