Job Description

The energy transition is driving a significant expansion of wind energy, requiring a substantial increase in installed capacity. To achieve this, larger turbines with increased rotor diameters are being developed. This PhD project is part of the NEXTgenT MSCA Doctoral Networks, aiming to train the next generation of engineers to design and develop over 25MW offshore wind turbine rotor systems. The project will investigate the use of profile clustering and numerical modelling to provide accurate wind speed profiles up to 500m, using parameters that can be easily inferred from observations or reanalyses. These profiles will be used to assess turbine loading conditions for design and performance calculations.

Requirements

To be eligible, candidates must have an MSc degree in wind energy or a related field, with proven experience in wind engineering. A combination of good mathematical and analytical skills, and a strong interest in numerical modelling and data analysis, is required. Experience with numerical fluid dynamics and knowledge of data-driven techniques is desirable.

Conditions of Employment

Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with an initial 1.5-year contract and a progress assessment after 15 months. The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from €2770 per month in the first year to €3539 in the fourth year. The TU Delft Graduate School provides an inspiring research environment, with a mentor and a Doctoral Education Programme aimed at developing transferable, discipline-related, and research skills.
