Position Overview

The Medical Informatics department is seeking a PhD candidate to engage in pioneering research within the realm of health artificial intelligence and data science. This role involves collaboration with the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) initiative, a global, interdisciplinary consortium aimed at maximizing the potential of health data through extensive analytics that generate dependable real-world evidence.

As a doctoral researcher, your primary responsibility will be to investigate the utilization of federated data networks to enhance best practices in the creation and validation of predictive models. You will take the lead and contribute to projects that focus on methodological research in machine learning applications within healthcare. The research will encompass clinical environments, feature engineering techniques, deep learning, and other sophisticated machine learning methodologies to facilitate personalized medicine. The emphasis will be on leveraging large-scale federated data networks enabled by the standardization of health data according to the OMOP Common Data Model. Evaluating the impact of these innovative approaches on patient care will be integral to the research agenda.

Qualifications and Skills

  • We welcome applications from individuals with backgrounds in Natural Sciences, Informatics, Economics, Sociology, and Data Science.
  • A strong interest in data mining, deep learning, machine learning, regression analysis, and programming is essential.
  • Candidates with experience in the regulatory domain or those interested in applying health data science in clinical settings are encouraged to propose relevant research topics, ideally possessing a medical background.
  • Applicants should be highly motivated, eager to learn, and demonstrate initiative in their assigned responsibilities.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills are important for this international collaboration.

Employment Terms

  • This position is temporary for a duration of four years. The gross monthly salary starts at €3,017 in the first year and increases to €3,824 in the fourth year (scale OIO).
  • Attractive fringe benefits include a 13th month salary paid out in November and an individual travel expense package.
  • Pension insurance is provided through ABP, covering approximately 70% of the monthly contribution.
  • Additional benefits include access to an in-house physiotherapist, bicycle repair services, and a gym for fitness activities after work.
