Job Title: Optical Engineer

Job Summary:

Serco is seeking a skilled Optical Engineer to join our team at the European Space Agency's European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) in the Netherlands. As an Optical Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing optical systems for spacecraft and other space-related applications.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Translate optical payload performance requirements into optical systems specifications.
  • Conceptualize and design optical systems, including telescopes and spectrometers.
  • Analyze and verify optical system designs, including optical tolerances.
  • Evaluate and assess opto-mechanical layouts.
  • Develop plans for experimental validation and calibration of optical systems.
  • Analyze test results and verify high-precision optical components technology developments.

Requirements:

  • Master's or PhD in Physics or Optical Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of relevant experience in the design, engineering, and testing of optical instrumentation.
  • Proficient in ZEMAX and/or CODE V, and preferably also ASAP.
  • Hands-on experience in optical manufacturing techniques, alignment, and tolerancing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to work in a diverse and multinational team environment.
  • Proficient in the English language, both written and spoken.
  • Knowledge of another EU member state language is an asset.
  • Candidates must be eligible to work in the EU.
