Postdoctoral Researcher in Digital Cultures

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Universiteit Leiden. The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic research project focused on the intersection of digital cultures and contagious digitalities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct theoretically inflected and politically urgent research on the intersection of digital culture and viral metaphors.
  • Develop and implement a research project on digital cultures and contagious digitalities, with a focus on the politics of the digital and bio- and necropolitical questions around immunity and inoculation.
  • Produce high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference papers.
  • Engage in science communication and outreach activities to disseminate research findings to a broader audience.
  • Collaborate with the research team to develop and implement a research agenda that aligns with the project's goals and objectives.
  • Teach courses in the MA Media Studies and/or the BA in Film and Literary Studies and/or the BA in Arts Media and Society.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Cultural Analysis and/or Media Studies, awarded by the time of appointment.
  • Personal affinity with digital media and metaphors of contagion and disease.
  • Ability to think creatively and produce theoretically challenging and politically urgent analyses of cultural objects.
  • Full professional proficiency in English.
  • Team player and independent thinker.
  • Affinity with the LUCAS institute's aims, values, and strategy.
  • Ability to relocate to the Netherlands or be willing to relocate upon starting the position.
