Delft, Zuid-Holland, Nederland TNO Voltijd
About this position

TNO is seeking a highly motivated researcher to join our team in the field of residual stress analysis. As a researcher, you will be responsible for investigating the influence of specimen size on residual stress distribution in rails.

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct a literature review on state-of-the-art residual stress measurement techniques and residual stress fields in rails
  • Develop a numerical model to predict residual stress distribution in full rails based on small specimen measurements
  • Design and conduct experiments to validate the numerical model and propose an experimental method to overcome the problem of residual stress redistribution in small specimens
Requirements
  • Master's degree in civil engineering, mechanical engineering, maritime engineering, architecture, or the built environment
  • Strong affinity with steel structures and numerical modeling
  • Investigative and critical attitude, with a desire to understand the underlying phenomena
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and preferably Dutch
What we offer

TNO offers a challenging and rewarding work environment, with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will be part of a dynamic team of researchers and engineers working on cutting-edge projects in the field of materials science and engineering.
