The Role

As an Electrical Automation Engineer at Damen Naval's Proposals department, you will be responsible for conceptualizing and contract designing electrical and automation systems for our cutting-edge naval vessels.

This includes power generation and distribution, propulsion, platform automation, cable installations, and navigation systems, ensuring compliance with all requirements and regulations.

You will work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary tender team to develop innovative electrical and automation design solutions that meet commercial viability and customer appeal.

Your excellent numerical and digital insights, combined with strong writing skills, will enable you to substantiate your figures and solutions in compelling and convincing documents.

After a successful tender, you will ensure a smooth transition of your work to our engineering department for detailed engineering and realization.

Key Responsibilities
  • SUPPORT PRELIMINARY EQUIPMENT SELECTION AND BUDGET ALLOCATION BY CONTRIBUTING TO REQUIREMENTS ANALYSIS AND DRAFTING ELECTRICAL & AUTOMATION ENGINEERING SPECIFICATIONS.
  • DEFINE GENERAL SYSTEM ARCHITECTURES (SINGLE LINE DIAGRAM, AUTOMATION ARCHITECTURE) INCLUDING ELECTRICAL LOAD BALANCES AND (PROPULSION) SYSTEM CONFIGURATION AS PART OF THE DESIGN AND TENDER PACKAGE.
  • EVALUATE DESIGNS AGAINST REQUIREMENTS AND PREPARE CORRESPONDING REPORTS.
  • WRITE TECHNICAL DOCUMENTS, CONTRACT SPECIFICATIONS, AND REPORTS, EFFECTIVELY COMMUNICATING COMPLEX CONCEPTS AND DATA TO CUSTOMERS AND SUBCONTRACTORS.
  • PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS WITH CUSTOMERS, SUBCONTRACTORS, AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS ON TECHNICAL AND COMMERCIAL ASPECTS OF PROPOSED SOLUTIONS.
  • SUPPORT COST EVALUATIONS PROVIDED BY SUBCONTRACTORS AND INTERNAL STAKEHOLDERS.
  • COLLABORATE WITH INTERNAL DEPARTMENTS TO OPTIMIZE PROJECT OUTCOMES.
Requirements
  • MINIMUM 3 YEARS' EXPERIENCE IN ELECTRICAL DESIGN CONCEPTS AND PRACTICES, PREFERABLY ACQUIRED IN COMPLEX MARITIME (TENDER) PROJECTS.
  • EXCELLENT WRITING SKILLS WITH THE ABILITY TO DELIVER DETAILED AND COMPELLING TECHNICAL CONTENT.
  • A COMMERCIAL MINDSET TO CREATE VIABLE AND APPEALING TECHNICAL AND FINANCIAL FORECASTS.
  • BACHELOR'S OR MASTER'S DEGREE IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING, MECHATRONICS, OR A RELATED FIELD.
  • EXCELLENT COMMAND OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE BOTH WRITTEN AND VERBAL, PREFERABLY ALSO DUTCH. WILLINGNESS TO LEARN DUTCH IS A JOB REQUIREMENT.
  • WILLINGNESS TO FREQUENTLY TRAVEL TO OUR VLISINGEN AND SCHIEDAM OFFICES.
  • EXCELLENT REFERENCE ANTECEDENTS AS A PRE-EMPLOYMENT SECURITY SCREENING IS STANDARD PART OF THE RECRUITMENT PROCEDURE.
  • PERMANENT EU CITIZENSHIP AND PASSPORT ARE BOTH REQUIRED, CANDIDATES WITH NL/EU (WORK) VISA OR WITH BOTH AN EU AND NON-EU NATIONALITY AND/OR PASSPORT ARE NOT ELIGIBLE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS IMPOSED BY THE MILITARY NATURE OF OUR PROJECTS.
Salary and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary ranging from €60,000 to €90,000 per annum, depending on experience, plus a generous benefits package including:

  • A COMPETITIVE SALARY SCALE BASED ON EXPERIENCE.
  • 27 DAYS OF HOLIDAY AND 13 ADV DAYS PER YEAR.
  • TRAVEL ALLOWANCE OF 23 CENTS PER KILOMETRE.
  • PME-PENSION ARRANGEMENT WITH AN EMPLOYER CONTRIBUTION OF 60%.
