Research Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at AMOLF, focusing on the development of stable perovskite solar cells. The project aims to investigate the ion migration in perovskite solar cells and related devices, with the goal of improving their stability and efficiency.

Project Overview

Perovskite solar cells have shown great promise as a next-generation photovoltaic technology, offering faster scaling, reduced costs, and easier integration compared to traditional silicon solar cells. However, their limited stability remains a significant barrier to large-scale commercialization. In this project, you will investigate the ion migration in perovskite solar cells and explore ways to reduce its impact on the device's performance.

Research Objectives
  • Investigate the ion migration in perovskite solar cells and its impact on device performance
  • Develop new materials with reduced ion migration
  • Combine measurements of ion motion in the frequency and time domain with a variation of device and material parameters and external pressure
  • Use drift-diffusion simulations to understand the microscopic level of ion movement
Qualifications

We invite applications from highly motivated candidates with a strong background in physics, chemistry, materials science, or engineering, and a keen interest in solar cells. A Master's degree or equivalent qualification is required.

Work Environment

AMOLF is a leading research institute in the Netherlands, focusing on fundamental research on the physics of complex forms of matter. Our research team is highly collaborative and supportive, with a strong focus on developing new materials and technologies. As a PhD candidate, you will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and a wide range of courses to enhance your research skills.

Benefits
  • A full-time appointment for four years
  • A starting salary of 2,781 Euros gross per month
  • A range of employment benefits
  • Assistance with housing and visa applications
  • Compensation for transport costs and furnishing expenses
