Job OverviewThis PhD position focuses on developing a multi-scale modelling framework for predicting the influence of irradiation on mechanical properties of reactor materials. As a key member of our research team, you will work closely with experts in mechanics of materials and materials science to bridge the gap between physical processes and macroscopic application scales.
Responsibilities- Develop a multi-scale approach to model microstructure evolution under neutron loads and irradiation hardening and embrittlement.
- Apply a combination of modelling techniques, including cluster dynamics, crystal plasticity, and probabilistic brittle failure models.
- Predict the influence of irradiation on mechanical properties of an aluminum alloy used in structural components of research reactors.
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A strong background in Mechanical Engineering, Computational Mechanics, or Applied Mathematics.
- A deep understanding of mechanics of materials and materials science.
- Experience with multi-scale modelling and micromechanics is highly desirable.
- Excellent oral communication and writing skills in English.
