About the Position

We are seeking a highly qualified and motivated Assistant Professor in Social and Political Philosophy to join our team at Universiteit Utrecht. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and research in the field of social and political philosophy, with a focus on critical social theory, democratic theory, and theories of justice.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate students in the BA in Philosophy, BA in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE), Research Master's in Philosophy, and Master in Applied Ethics.
  • Conduct research in social and political philosophy, with a focus on critical social theory, democratic theory, and theories of justice.
  • Develop and implement a research plan that aligns with the research profile of the department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the department and across the university to develop interdisciplinary teaching and research initiatives.
  • Engage in public outreach and engagement activities to connect our research and teaching to societal stakeholders.
Requirements
  • PhD in Philosophy (or a closely related field) by the time of appointment.
  • Teaching and research expertise in social and political philosophy, including an affinity for teaching and supervising in the PPE programme.
  • A research specialisation within this field, as evidenced by a realistic medium-term research plan.
  • A record of publications that demonstrates the ability to conduct research that is internationally recognised as contributing to the field.
  • Experience with teaching in undergraduate and/or graduate programmes.
  • An interdisciplinary attitude, with the willingness and ability to contribute to the development of interdisciplinary teaching and research.
  • The ability to teach in Dutch and English.
  • The Dutch (UTQ; in Dutch: Basiskwalificatie Onderwijs, BKO) qualification or the willingness to obtain it.
What We Offer
  • A position for 12 months with the prospect of a permanent employment contract.
  • A working week of 38 hours, in which 40% of the time is reserved for research and 60% for teaching.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4,332 and €6,737 in the case of full-time employment.
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • A pension scheme, partially paid parental leave, and flexible terms of employment.
