We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at TU Delft, focusing on the application of big data analytics and artificial intelligence in port performance optimization. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for improving the efficiency and safety of port operations.

Job Description

The PhD position is part of the Port and Waterways AI research program, a collaborative initiative between the Port of Rotterdam and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences at TU Delft. The program aims to leverage the potential of big data and AI to enhance port performance, with a focus on sea-side operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on the application of big data analytics and AI in port performance optimization
  • Develop and implement innovative solutions for improving port efficiency and safety
  • Collaborate with the research team and industry partners to ensure the practical relevance and impact of the research
  • Contribute to the development of the Port and Waterways AI research program
Requirements
  • MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Transport and Infrastructure, or a related field
  • Experience in applying AI models and big data analytics to diverse data sources
  • Advanced skills in scripting with Python
  • Affinity with port-related applications, nautical traffic, and safety issues
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
