Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at TU Delft, focusing on the application of big data analytics and AI in port performance optimization. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of innovative solutions for improving port operations and safety.

Research Context

Ports play a vital role in the global logistics network, facilitating international trade and commerce. Efficient port operations are crucial for reducing transportation costs and enhancing supply chain reliability. Our research aims to leverage the wealth of data available to optimize port performance, with a focus on sea-side operational efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

The PhD candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing and applying AI models and big data analytics to diverse data sources
  • Conducting research on port infrastructure use and operational dynamics
  • Collaborating with our research team to integrate AI techniques into port operations
  • Contributing to the development of real-time monitoring and anomaly detection mechanisms
Requirements

We are looking for excellent candidates with:

  • An MSc degree in Civil Engineering, Maritime Engineering, Transport and Infrastructure, or a related field
  • Experience in applying AI models and big data analytics to diverse data sources
  • Advanced skills in scripting with Python
  • Affinity with port-related applications, nautical traffic, and safety issues
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment
Conditions of Employment

The PhD candidate will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with a salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities. The TU Delft offers a customizable compensation package, discounts on health insurance, and a monthly work costs contribution.
