About this role
TNO, a leading R&D institute, is seeking a highly skilled professional to join its Photonic Integration Technology Center (PITC) in Enschede. As a Device Physicist, you will play a crucial role in developing, optimizing, and managing the fabrication and integration processes used to create photonic integrated circuits.
Key responsibilities
- Explore novel approaches to deposit and integrate thin-film piezoelectric materials with low-loss silicon nitride waveguides.
- Realize stress-based light modulation with minimal energy consumption.
- Exploit linear electro-optic effects to demonstrate high-speed electro-optical modulation.
- Develop second-order nonlinear processes on a chip, with low-loss and high-quality resonators.
- Collaborate with specialists from UT and TNO to contribute to roadmap development related to photonic integration.
- Participate in ongoing collaborative projects with international and local customers.
Requirements
- PhD degree in Applied Physics, Nanoscience, or a related discipline.
- 4+ years' experience in technology development, working in a cleanroom, with expertise in thin-film deposition and (photolithographic) patterning, and device physics.
- Hands-on and taking responsibility, able to organize work efficiently and cooperatively.
- Excellent communication skills in English.
