Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research team at Radboud University. As a PhD candidate, you will be expected to develop a critical reconstruction and evaluation of the conceptual assumptions underlying the contemporary legal-political migration regime.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct in-depth research on the philosophical foundations of migration law, focusing on the conceptions of human life and humans living together on and in relation to a particular territory.
  • Examine the ways in which state sovereignty, popular sovereignty, and territorial sovereignty are conceived in relation to each other and to human rights.
  • Investigate the role of the idea of the nation-state and national identity in the regulation of migration in liberal democracies.
  • Engage with the work of thinkers who reflected on this subject in other legal-political constellations, including thinkers from the history of Western legal philosophy and non-Western and/or decolonial perspectives.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Philosophy of Law or a related field.
  • Strong research skills and ability to conduct independent research.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborate with colleagues.
