Postdoctoral Researcher: Social Norms in Medieval Canon Law

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled postdoctoral researcher to join our team at Radboud University. The successful candidate will contribute to the SOLEMNE project, which aims to chart the spread of social norms in medieval canon law.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research on the spread of social norms through clusters of authoritative statements in canonical collections
  • Use traditional philological study and advanced digital humanities methods to analyze the data
  • Contribute to the development of a dynamic database and innovative digital tool
  • Present research findings in at least three major articles in international scientific journals
  • Participate in the project's programme of meetings and contribute to wider communication of the project's results

Requirements:

  • Ph D degree in Late Antique, Medieval or Legal History (or a related field)
  • Excellent research skills, clear descriptive and analytical abilities, and experience with palaeography, manuscript studies, and the study of canon law
  • Affinity with Digital Humanities and willingness to acquire or expand digital skillset
  • Excellent competence in English and Latin, and a passive knowledge of relevant modern languages
  • Ability to work collaboratively in an international research team and adopt a leadership role

What We Offer:

  • Temporary employment contract of 3 years
  • Salary within salary scale 11, depending on previous education and number of years of relevant work experience
  • 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus
