We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our research team at TU Delft, focusing on electrokinetic studies of clay/water interfaces. This project is part of the FLUXIONIC European doctoral network, an interdisciplinary collaboration between academic and industrial partners in 8 countries.
Research ContextThe PhD student will participate in a comprehensive research program aimed at understanding the electrokinetic response of polydisperse systems, comprising one clay type with various size fractions. The research will involve experimental techniques such as Dielectric Spectroscopy, Electroacoustics, Electroosmosis, and Streaming Potential to probe surface/water interfaces at different material porosities, ionic strengths, and pH.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct experimental research on electrokinetic phenomena in clay-based systems
- Develop and set up new Electroacoustic devices for measuring electrokinetic responses in concentrated suspensions
- Collaborate with colleagues from Sorbonne Université to refine our understanding of the investigated systems
- Perform molecular dynamics simulations to support experimental data and test existing colloidal models
We are looking for a motivated student with a strong background in physics, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline. Excellent analytical and hands-on skills, as well as an inclination for interdisciplinary research, are essential.
Conditions of EmploymentThe PhD candidate will be offered a 4-year period of employment, with a 1.5-year contract followed by a 2.5-year contract, assuming satisfactory progress and performance. The salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
