Project OverviewThe PhD student will work on a project focused on the development of bioinspired composites with enhanced mechanical properties. The project aims to replicate the internal structure of biological structural materials in synthetic composites, paving the way for new classes of structural and functional engineering components.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct multi-scale experimental research to investigate the effect of the reinforcing architecture on the mechanical performance of bioinspired composites.
- Employ advanced materials characterization techniques, including electron microscopy and micro-mechanical testing.
- Collaborate with the research team to develop and optimize the processing and characterization methods.
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background and interest in Mechanics of Materials and Materials Science.
- Experience in materials processing and micromechanics is an asset.
- Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation after nine months.
- Salary and benefits in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
