Position Overview
The Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) is at the forefront of the NWA-ORC funded ALIGN4energy (A4E) initiative, which aims to expedite the energy transition within the residential sector. This project integrates insights from social sciences, including psychology and economics, with technological advancements in energy systems and stakeholder engagement, focusing on municipalities and housing cooperatives. The primary goal is to create personalized digital tools that effectively engage citizens in the energy transition process.
IVM is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher (1.0 FTE) to design and evaluate behavioral strategies that can effectively involve larger segments of the population in the energy transition. The research will specifically target methods to encourage participation and sustained engagement on digital energy platforms. Additionally, the successful candidate will support the project leader, Dr. Sanchayan Banerjee, in teaching (0.2 FTE) and managing project-related tasks (0.1 FTE).
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct, enhance, and implement scientific research.
- Gather, organize, and analyze relevant data.
- Innovate new methodologies, interventions, and theoretical frameworks.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including colleagues from different institutions.
- Publish research findings and present at academic conferences.
- Engage in educational activities within IVM.
- Assist with specific project management responsibilities, such as reporting and planning.
Candidate Profile
- A PhD degree or nearing completion, ideally in Behavioral and Energy (or Environmental) Economics.
- Experience in experimental field research, particularly Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs), is preferred. Familiarity with stakeholder collaboration is a plus.
- Proficient in statistical software, such as STATA or R.
- Experience in survey design using platforms like Qualtrics.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English; knowledge of Dutch is advantageous for communication purposes.
- Understanding of social marketing strategies, particularly in recruiting participants for online platforms, is desirable but not mandatory.

What We Offer
