Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer

OCI Iowa Fertilizer is seeking a highly skilled Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to join our Maintenance team in Wever, Iowa. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, installing, managing, and maintaining equipment used to monitor and control engineering systems, machinery, and processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the I/E maintenance team in troubleshooting field instruments, electrical equipment, and control systems.
  • Play a major engineering role in electrical and instrumentation projects, including in-house projects and modifications.
  • Prepare and approve electrical and instrumentation specifications and drawings.
  • Specify, size, and select instrument devices and electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate with DCS engineers to identify I/O points in DCS/PLC systems.
  • Lead and participate in the management of change process for electrical and instrumentation.
  • Review and prepare electrical and instrumentation preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Lead and participate in Root Cause Analysis for electrical and instrumentation incidents.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and vendors to select the right electrical and instrument equipment and devices.
  • Lead and play a major role in evaluating and improving the reliability of electrical and instrument equipment, devices, and systems.
  • Mentor junior I&E engineers and participate in training technicians on electrical and instrumentation technical subjects.
  • Assess, identify, and recommend spare parts for electrical and instrument equipment based on vendor recommendations.
  • Manage SIF test activities when SIF system validation is required.
  • Review P&ID drawings to ensure logics and control philosophy are properly reflected.
Requirements:
  • Minimum bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
  • 10+ years' engineering/maintenance experience in the chemical industry or refining environment in an engineering position.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards in oil and gas/chemical industries, such as API, ISA, IEC, NEC, NFPA, etc.
  • Experience in engineering firms, including basic and detail engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience in DCS, ESD, PLC hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented System (SIS) standards and applications.
  • Experience in SAP or similar ERP programs.
  • Strong knowledge of field instrument selection, application, calibration, troubleshooting, including analyzers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, TEAMS, PowerPoint).
Physical and Work Environment Requirements:
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Bending, kneeling, lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Wearing a respirator when/where required to perform inspections/job duties.
  • Ability to climb straight ladders. Some work may require heights more than 100 feet.
  • Confined space entry may be required.
  • Wearing hearing protection within high-level noise areas as required.
  • Must be willing to be available 24/7 on short notice to support plant operations.
  • Maintain a valid driver's license. Always ensure HR has a copy of a current, valid license on file.
